Kapalua is located on the western edge of Maui, a paradise Hawaiians call the “Island of the Sun.” Kapalua can be loosely translated as "arms embracing the sea," which refers to the resort’s dramatic lava peninsulas. Five bays and three white-sand beaches create Kapalua’s renowned shoreline while a few meters inland visitors can explore lush rainforests, a protected marine life conservation district, an ancient Hawaiian burial ground, and golf courses that double as wildlife sanctuaries. Kapalua is home to an astonishing number of flowers and trees, planted by ancestral Polynesians and Hawaiians, such as lychee, flowering ginger and ti leaf plants. Whether your idea of vacation is learning about natural history or lounging by the shore, Maui is sure to delight. Visitors can combine cultural history, golf, and a wealth of recreational activities for a Hawaiian vacation like no other.
